 ABOUT US

Enriching Minneapolis

Partner with us on efforts to transform education, promote economic vitality, and build social capital to ensure that everyone in our community has an equal opportunity to thrive. Since 1915, The Minneapolis Foundation and our donors have supported a wide diversity of organizations to make Minneapolis a vibrant community.

A Generous Legacy

We make it easy to make a difference – today and for future generations. Walter D. Boutell made a gift to the Foundation over 75 years ago. His gift continues to send low-income children to summer camp each year.

Rising Above the Odds

You can create a donor advised fund: support all of the organizations you care about and let us handle the administrative details. Maryan and Dick Schall support Twin Cities RISE with their donor advised fund. Twin Cities RISE! prepares under- and unemployed adults with the tools to find jobs that pay a living wage.

Making a Difference: Community Grants

You can leave a gift to the Foundation to address changing community needs or a particular issue. The Minneapolis Foundation has provided funding to the Latino Economic Development Center to help hundreds of people through small business and community development efforts. Minnesota Meeting

Minnesota Meeting is The Minneapolis Foundation's public affairs program. It draws together engaging and provocative national speakers, panelists of local experts, a geographically, economically, and racially diverse audience, and materials to provide data, exchange perspectives, and stimulate dialogue on critical issues facing our community.
GREATER POSSIBILITIES TOGETHER

We make it easy to make a difference – today and for future generations.

Since 1915, The Minneapolis Foundation has partnered with generous individuals and families, effective nonprofits, engaged civic leaders and other people just like you to strengthen our community through charitable giving.

How We Work

For donors, we offer simple, flexible ways to streamline charitable giving and create powerful, personal legacies – whatever a person’s interests may be. Through the funds they establish, our donors grant an average of $30+ million to more than 1,000 local, national and international organizations each year.

Individuals and families also make gifts to the Foundation that we pool and invest. Income generated is then distributed to community initiatives through a competitive grantmaking process. Each year, we award an average of $6 million in grants to innovative nonprofits working to ensure our community is a fair, vibrant and sustainable place in which every person has an opportunity to thrive and contribute.

We also join with nonprofits, businesses, government agencies and other foundations to advocate for positive community change. Our goals are to ensure our children receive a world-class education, to enhance the economic health and vitality of our region, and to empower communities to be effective leaders on issues that directly affect their lives.

Founded by local business leaders in 1915, The Minneapolis Foundation currently administers more than 1,000 charitable funds and manages more than $500 million in assets. A board of trustees composed of civic leaders from the public, private, and nonprofit sectors provides oversight and direction.
