North Minneapolis Tornado Summary - Minnesota Helps Fund
This video provides a summary of how the Minnesota Helps fund made an impact in North Minneapolis (NoMi) in the days and months following the devastating tornado on May 22, 2011. About the Fund: On Sunday, May 22, 2011, North Minneapolis experienced the devastating chaos of a severe tornado system, tragically leaving one resident dead, injuring dozens more and rendering thousands homeless as trees, water and debris destroyed families' homes and the security of their community. As families regrouped, individuals and organizations across Minnesota were already extending their generosity to their North Minneapolis neighbors. The Minneapolis Foundation, Greater Twin Cities United Way, and GiveMN.org launched the Minnesota Helps - North Minneapolis Recovery Fund on Monday, May 23. The Fund was created to support the immediate and long-term needs of the individuals, families, nonprofits, and businesses impacted by the devastating tornado that hit North Minneapolis. Contributions to the Funds were distributed to support those most affected by this tragedy, both immediately and in the coming months. One-hundred percent of all contributions will be redistributed to provide support where it is most needed. Lives have been disrupted and the healing and rebuilding of North Minneapolis will continue for many months. Thank you to everyone who gave their time, talent, and resources to help this vital part of our community recover.
