"It Makes Giving Easy"
Patty and David Murphy of Edina established a donor advised fund in 2005 when their financial advisor at Wells Fargo PCS introduced them to Dan Berg at The Minneapolis Foundation. Patty and David have deep roots in the community and a strong desire to give back, especially to the organizations that they know well and where they are engaged as volunteers. Patty’s volunteer involvement focuses on nonprofit board work. She serves on the boards of MacPhail Center for Music and Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery, among others. David, President and COO of Red Wing Shoe Company, chairs the board of Fairview Hospital Red Wing and is a board member of the Red Wing YMCA and Greater Minneapolis Council of Churches.
The Murphys enjoy being a part of The Minneapolis Foundation, and especially appreciate the convenience of online grantmaking and real time reporting so they can budget and keep track of their charitable gifts throughout the year. Patty says her only regret is that they didn’t set up the fund years earlier.
David and Patty recently added to their fund using appreciated stock. In the past they have given closely held stock as well as publicly traded shares. In every case, the Foundation has processed the gifts smoothly and efficiently.
According to David, “Our whole experience with The Minneapolis Foundation has been first rate. We appreciate the professionalism, the service and the stewardship that The Minneapolis Foundation provides. It makes giving easy.”
