BECOME A DONOR | planned giving

Planned giving through The Minneapolis Foundation creates gifts that last well beyond your lifetime. You can be assured that:

  • Your gift will be carefully invested and administered.
  • Distributions will be made according to your intent.
  • Your family members can be involved in continuing your philanthropic traditions.
  • You may be able to accomplish all of your charitable goals with a single gift.
  • Your gift will continue to make a difference locally, nationally and even internationally.

The Minneapolis Foundation has been fulfilling the charitable wishes of Minnesotans longer than any other state foundation, and we welcome a wide range of contributions including securities, illiquid assets, real estate and retirement plan assets.

Even if you can’t make a gift today, you may be able to provide for a generous gift in the future. Whether you make a bequest or create a comprehensive estate planning strategy, we can help you create a planned gift that fits your interests and financial means.

Community What is a Community Builder?

Community Builders are individuals who have provided for the Foundation in their will or estate plan.

Making a gift is as easy as designating the Foundation as the beneficiary of an IRA or leaving a simple bequest. (For example: "I give [an amount of money, shares of stock, a percentage of my estate] to The Minneapolis Foundation.")

With our Legacy Funds, you can specify a gift to support what you're passionate about, such as children or the arts.

We can also help you design a planned gift to support the causes and charities you care about most, after you've provided for the financial security of your loved ones.

If you have made a gift to the Foundation, please let us know so we can recognize your generous contributions.

You can email Mary Ellis Peterson, gift planning officer, or call 612-672-3859.

COMMUNITY BUILDERS

Community Become a Community Builder by
naming the Foundation in a will or estate plan.

Through a generous bequest to The Minneapolis Foundation, Francis and Jane Van Konynenburg continue to impact the community. Their unrestricted fund allows the Foundation flexibility to meet changing community needs.

Lachlan and Martha Reed worked to give back to their community throughout their lives, and their partnership with The Minneapolis Foundation helped three generations of their family with their giving. A bequest they made to the Foundation continues to make a mark on our community.

Joseph Crocker was first introduced to The Minneapolis Foundation in the 1990’s through his volunteer work. The Crockers continue to partner with the Foundation to impact the community they love and have made provisions to support their Foundation's work after they're gone.
