ABOUT THIS TOPIC
INVOLVE YOUR FAMILY

  • There are more than 1 million charitable organizations in the United States.

  • Forms 990, which most nonprofit organizations must file with the IRS every year, are available free online at Guidestar.org. The forms provide an overview of an organization's finances and, in some cases, of its programs and outcomes.

  • Have you developed a mission statement for your donor advised fund? Identifying what you want to accomplish can help you make decisions and sort through a multitude of funding requests.

  • To achieve the greatest impact with your giving, consider making fewer and larger gifts to one or two organizations you are really passionate about and stick with them for the long haul.
