Immigration

The Minneapolis Foundation has an established record of efforts to ensure immigrants are able to thrive in and contribute to our community. In particular, we strive to provide opportunities and resources that promote constructive dialogue on immigration. We do this through community leadership, collaborative initiatives, public awareness, grantmaking, and convening.

Recent activities include:
  • The Foundation has hosted Minnesota Meeting public affairs events focused on immigration.

  • Community Grants have been awarded to organizations serving recent immigrants in the areas of economic development, education, and more.

  • The Foundation has conducted public awareness campaigns, published educational materials, and funded studies to document the impact of immigration on our state and promote positive dialogue.

  • Currently, the Foundation is working with foundations and businesses to study the impact of immigrants and refugees on our state’s economic vitality. The goal is to develop a comprehensive immigration reform strategy that works for Minnesota.

  • The Foundation has supported the arts as a means to promote dialogue on immigration and share personal experiences. We have hosted art receptions in our office and in the IDS Center’s Crystal Court and have underwritten stories of immigrant business leaders in major Twin Cities’ publications.
  • The Foundation manages endowment funds for Center for Asian Pacific Islanders in Philanthropy (CAPI), Center for Victims of Torture, and other agencies focused on serving immigrants and refugees.
