Did you know that people with disabilities are 20 percent less likely to vote than people without disabilities? Transportation issues are among the greatest challenges to voting facing people with disabilities. The Foundation and our donors gave funding to Courage Center to provide free rides to and from polling places for people with disabilities.

Interfaith people power

A leader from ISAIAH participates in an Organizing Apprenticeship Project gathering on racial equity in education. Through organizer and leadership training, policy research, and more, OAP helps organizations increase their ability to make our community a more fair and welcoming place for everyone.

Partnering with the City

The Minneapolis Foundation works across sectors to strengthen our community and the quality of life for its residents. We've partnered with the Mayor's office on a variety of activities, including the City's Youth Violence Prevention plan.

  • 164 crimes were reported to the FBI in Minnesota in 2008 involving racial or ethnic bias, religious bias, or bias against the victim’s sexual orientation or disabilities.

  • 49 cities and counties in Minnesota have established local human rights commissions.

  • Arrests among Native Americans in Minnesota occur at nearly three times the rate of Native Americans nationally.  Arrests among African Americans in Minnesota occur at almost twice the rate of African Americans nationally.

  • Minnesota is one of 14 states nationwide that prohibit discrimination in private employment based on sexual orientation.

  • In 2010, 9% of all Minneapolis residents reported experiencing situations where they felt unaccepted because of their race, ethnicity, or culture at least once a month or more.
