Give Today: Create a Charitable Fund

You can make a difference today. If you want to give now and see your charitable dollars at work, a charitable fund can provide:

  •  The satisfaction of giving;
  •  An easy transactional process; and
  • Efficient record keeping.
You can use your fund to support charities in Minnesota, across the country and around the world -- all with a single, tax-efficient gift.

Check out the many fund types we offer.

Donor Advised Fund

This is the most flexible fund option, and allows you to designate grants to the qualified nonprofits of your choice at any time. The Minneapolis Foundation administers nearly 600 Donor Advised Funds, managing the investment, due diligence and grant distribution. Our Donor Advised grants total more than $33 million each year. You can establish a fund today with a minimum gift of $10,000.

A Donor Advised Fund at The Minneapolis Foundation gives you the greatest number of giving options and maximum tax benefits without the hassle of administrative details. There are no costs to set up your fund and no annual tax returns to prepare.

Signature Fund
Signature Funds combine the name recognition of a private foundation with the privacy, flexibility and tax advantages of a Donor Advised Fund. They’re smart alternatives to charitable foundations of $1 million or more.

Community Action Fund

By creating a Community Action Fund, you provide the Foundation with flexible resources to address our community’s most urgent needs, now and into the future. These funds support the most promising, creative approaches to strengthening the Twin Cities area. Grant-making decisions are made by the Foundation’s expert program staff and Board Committee.

Field of Interest Fund

What are you passionate about? With a Field of Interest Fund, you can designate an interest area for your charitable gifts. The Foundation’s knowledgeable staff will identify the organizations performing the most effective work in the area you specify.

Legacy Fund

Support the causes you care about well beyond your lifetime. Your gifts will be pooled with those of other generous donors to make a greater impact in an area of particular interest to you or your family. The Minneapolis Foundation will steward those gifts to ensure they are continually put to effective use in accordance with the established fund priorities and to meet changing needs.

Designated Beneficiary Fund

Guarantee ongoing support for one or more organizations (your alma mater, a children’s organization, a cultural institution or virtually any qualified nonprofit organization) through a Designated Beneficiary Fund. The Foundation will make annual payments of income to your selected charities on behalf of the fund.

Scholarship Fund

Honor a loved one or inspire young people with a Scholarship Fund. Scholarships can be structured to benefit students at a particular school or within a specific field of study.

The Mark Family.

Charitable giving
...simplified.

As a successful entrepreneur and investor, Brian Mark, along with his family, annually faced the challenge of balancing taxes, income, and focusing their charitable giving.

Since creating a Donor Advised Fund at The Minneapolis Foundation, the Mark family's giving is more thoughtful and much easier.

They can now contribute cash or stocks into their Donor Advised Fund and take an immediate tax deduction, then recommend grants to charities when the time is right. There's no recordkeeping required and there are no charitable tax returns to prepare.

Streamline your giving with a Donor Advised Fund.
