Welcome

The Minneapolis Foundation awards Community Grants from the endowment created by generous Minnesotans through bequests and other unrestricted gifts. Each year The Minneapolis Foundation has approximately $5 to $7 million available for Community Grantmaking. In 2009, we rolled out our new strategic plan. This plan will guide our grantmaking decisions in an effort to create a better community.

Overview

The strategic plan has brought a sharper focus, clearer goals, and a more collaborative and sustainable approach to the Foundation's work. Our goal is to "promote social, economic, and racial equity."
  • The strategic plan includes a clearer definition of the areas in which we feel we can have the greatest community impact with our unrestricted resources: transforming education, promoting economic vitality, and building social capital. This new focus will allow us to support a range of specific strategies, including an ongoing commitment to our work in policy and systems change.
  • We have narrowed the geographic scope of our community grantmaking to organizations and activities that can demonstrate measurable outcomes for Minneapolis residents.
  • The grantmaking deadlines for 2010 are: March 15 and September 1, with grant decisions in June and December of each year.
  • Proposals must be received by 4:30 p.m. Late applications will not be considered for further review.
  • Due to current economic circumstances and limited resources available, we have suspended capital grantmaking and multi-year grants for 2010.
  • Applicants for the June grant round will be notified by May 1, 2010 whether their proposal is still under active consideration.
