Cild and Little Free Library

On June 21, Book It to the Parks!

On Wednesday, June 21, Minneapolis parks will open more than 50 new Little Free Libraries—a gift from The Minneapolis Foundation to local families in honor of Minnesota Public Radio’s 50th anniversary. MPR hosts, local authors, and other guest readers will celebrate by reading children’s books at story times in parks all over the city, from sunrise to sunset on summer’s longest day.

Book donations are welcome – help stock your neighborhood’s newest Little Free Library.

Bring your kids and Book It to the Parks!

What are Little Free Libraries?

Little Free Libraries are “take a book, leave a book” free book exchanges. Most of the new Little Free Libraries in Minneapolis parks are wooden boxes that will be installed outside, but keep an eye out for a few mobile libraries. Lake Nokomis even has a Little Free Library made out of a kayak!

Who is organizing Book It to the Parks?

The Minneapolis Foundation, Minneapolis Parks Foundation, Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board, Little Free Library, and Minnesota Public Radio are teaming up for Book It to the Parks to celebrate literacy and recognize Minnesota Public Radio’s 50th anniversary. #BookIt #MPR50 #MplsParks #OneMpls

Thanks to the community partners who donated books to fill the new Little Free Libraries: Anonymous, Coffee House Press, Graywolf Press, Bev Hlavac, Milkweed Editions, Minneapolis Parks Foundation, The Minneapolis Foundation, John Owens, Star Bright Books, University of Minnesota Press, and Ruth Usem.

Thanks to Jade Logistics, Little & Co., Highpoint Center for Printmaking, the Minnesota School of Botanical Art, and Standard Water Control Systems, Inc. and its employees for their contributions to the new Little Free Libraries.
