The Fund for Safe Communities was established in 2018 to support tangible, specific, and meaningful actions to address and prevent violence. The inaugural grant round took place in the spring of 2020 under the leadership of an advisory committee made up of emerging leaders who have personal experience with community violence.
Through this fund, we distribute grants for direct service programs, communication, advocacy, and organizing led by community-based organizations. We prioritize efforts that are led and influenced by Black, Indigenous, and people of color, and which are grounded in the needs of diverse Minneapolis neighborhoods.
