Impact investments aim to produce a social benefit and a financial return. This strategy has caught on with a wide range of investors, including large financial institutions, pension funds, private wealth managers, and commercial banks. Now, we’re making this powerful tool available to you.
This fund enables new and existing Donor Advised Funds to nurture small businesses, foster school excellence, and more by making hyper-local impact investments in partnership with us. A $10 million revolving loan pool, InvestMPLS pays a fixed interest rate to participating investors. Here’s to know if it’s the right tool for you:
You care about making positive change in your own backyard.
You’re interested in pooling your Donor Advised Fund assets with others to increase your impact in the community.
You have a private or family foundation and want to explore new ways to leverage your charitable assets for maximum impact.
How It Works
Your Donor Advised Fund can join a cohort of charitable investors on January 1 or July 1 each year until the loan pool is fully subscribed.
Loans are deployed
InvestMPLS assets are invested with highly qualified intermediary organizations, mostly Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) located here in the Twin Cities.
Monitor your impact
Our CDFI partners use InvestMPLS assets to make loans to small businesses, schools, and affordable housing organizations that strengthen our community in ways that align with the Minneapolis Foundation’s mission.
Collect your returns
Assets are invested with InvestMPLS for five years, with interest paid annually. At maturity, principal is returned to your Donor Advised Fund for future investment or grantmaking.
InvestMPLS currently targets these community outcomes:
Creating a business climate that fosters innovation, entrepreneurship, and self-sufficiency, and building a workforce that reflects our changing demographics.
Building an education system that prepares all children to compete in a global economy and pursue their dreams.
Ensuring that all individuals and families have safe, stable homes. Key strategy: Preserve and create affordable housing in Minneapolis.
